The Social Science Department at Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong, is a vibrant and dynamic hub for the exploration of human behavior, society, and global systems. Rooted in the values of academic excellence and social responsibility, the department seeks to equip students with a deep understanding of the social sciences and their relevance to the Ghanaian and global contexts. Through interdisciplinary programs in Social Studies, History, Geography, Religious and Moral Education, Economics, and more, students are prepared to engage critically with the world around them.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide high-quality education and training in the social sciences, with a strong emphasis on preparing students for careers in education, research, public service, and beyond. We are committed to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, while promoting a comprehensive understanding of social, cultural, economic, and moral issues within Ghana and the wider world.

Faculty

The department is staffed by seven (7) experienced and dedicated faculty members who are passionate about teaching, mentoring, and research. Our lecturers are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment while challenging students to reach their full potential. Currently the students in the department from level hundred (100) to level four hundred (400) is five hundred and ninety-four (594)

The Social Science Department is actively involved in research and community engagement initiatives that promote social justice, economic development, and cultural understanding. Faculty and students engage in research projects addressing issues such as poverty, inequality, environmental sustainability, governance, and education reform. These activities are designed to bridge theory and practice and to empower communities through knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
